About Sofia Bennett
Sofia Bennett does the hands-on app testing — the part where you actually live with a tracker for a fortnight and find out whether it survives a real life of restaurant meals, mixed home cooking, snacks and the occasional glass of wine. She is an Accredited Practising Dietitian based in Sydney, and she logs the same meals across every app on test so our usability and coaching scores reflect day-to-day reality rather than a tidy demo.
As a dietitian who counsels clients on weight management and diabetes, Sofia is most interested in the questions a tracking app is actually supposed to answer: am I getting enough protein and fibre, am I over on sodium and sugar, and what should I eat next to land my targets? She evaluates how well each app helps an ordinary person — not a nutrition obsessive — hit those goals without turning eating into a chore.
Why she tests the way she does
Sofia’s clinical experience taught her that the limiting factor for most people is not knowledge but consistency. Plenty of clients can recite which foods are “good”; far fewer can keep logging through a busy week, a work trip, or a dinner out. So when she reviews an app she pays close attention to the things that quietly decide whether someone keeps going: how little friction a log takes, whether the feedback is encouraging rather than shaming, and whether the app helps with the genuinely hard moment — deciding what to eat next with limited budget left for the day.
What Sofia owns at The Nutrition Wire
Sofia leads the human side of our rubric. Specifically, she:
- runs the two-week adherence diaries, logging identical meals across every app under test;
- scores ease of use, quality of feedback, and meal-planning help;
- writes the majority of our app-by-app reviews;
- stress-tests each app against real-world eating — takeaways, social meals, travel, and unlabelled or mixed dishes, including Australian and Asian foods that Western-built databases often miss.
Where her qualitative scores diverge sharply from a second reviewer’s, she triggers a re-test rather than splitting the difference.
Credentials and training in detail
Sofia holds a BSc (Hons) in Nutrition Science from the University of New South Wales and a Master of Nutrition and Dietetics from the University of Sydney. She is an Accredited Practising Dietitian credentialled by Dietitians Australia and a Credentialled Diabetes Educator accredited by the Australian Diabetes Educators Association (ADEA).
Conflicts of interest and disclosures
Sofia accepts no payment, subscriptions-in-kind, or other consideration from app developers in exchange for reviews or ratings, and she holds no financial stake in any product she covers. Her assessments are made before any affiliate link is added to a page, and commercial arrangements never influence a score. Her reviews are product evaluations, not personalised dietary advice.
Outside The Nutrition Wire
Sofia runs a small group programme for first-time trackers and is on a long-term quest to make high-protein versions of every dish she grew up eating.
